CoRI is focusing on three strategic domains in a matrix environment strongly influenced by market demands and regulatory constraints.  In order to share its customers vision and provide them with a strategic intelligence.  Through close collaboration with companies in its sector, CoRI is always considering the practical implications of scientific research that are initiated.
The first strategic domain is related to projects linked with environmental consideration.  Coatings are everywhere in our society. The applications cover such wide areas as decoration, protection and functionalization.  CoRI’s is focusing on projects related to the environment.  The research work of the CoRI deals mainly with the development of formulations that respect the environment, have low emissions in terms of VOC and are made preferably from biosourced raw materials or come from recycling.  The CoRI is also developing its expertise in life cycle analysis.

Our activities are based on the 12 principles of green chemistry. This means, for example, that we try to create as little waste as possible, that we limit the use of toxic substances and that we try to minimize energy consumption. Our projects are always performed in close cooperation with industry. On one hand, there are research projects in collaboration with a group of partners from industry. For example, a project on the design of a software tool to substitute solvents in paints and cleaning products with more environmentally friendly alternatives. On the other hand, we perform contract research such as the characterization of side streams or the extraction of high-quality components from waste streams. For these projects we have an extensive set of analytical equipment which allows us to perform both chromatographic techniques such as liquid and gas chromatography, and spectroscopic techniques such as infrared and NMR.
