The Port of Ghent is a modern Multi-purpose seaport offering a choice of well equipped terminals for handling and storing a vast range of commodities and cargoes. Its nautical access goes up to Panamax-type vessels of 92,000 DWT. Due to its exceptional natural geographical hinterland situation, it is strategically positioned to act as a distribution and logistics centre for servicing the major European consumer markets. It offers easy on-carriage connections by sea, road, rail and inland waterways.

 

The Seaport of Ghent is also a strong industrial port, home to global leaders in the steel, automotive, chemical, agribulk and bio-energy industry. In all, the port handles around 40 million tons of water-borne cargo a year, of which 2/3rds overseas and 1/3^rd via inland waterways. The Port of Ghent houses the largest bio-ethanol and biodiesel production site in Europe, making it the number one bio-port of Europe.
